The Splendor of Recognition:

A 6 Week Deep Dive into Heart-Centered Yoga Philosophy

Tuesdays | 6-7pm est | Oct 17 - Nov 21

Pratyabhijna Hrdayam (The Splendor of Recognition) is a collection of sutras that tell us how we might live a more heart-centered, awe-inspiring life. Sutras (threads) are small aphorisms that carry rich meaning and are meant to be unpacked within a community. In this 6-week series, we’ll explore the sutras together through lecture, discussion, and embodiment practices.

Each week will be dedicated to one sutra so that we have time and space to sift through it. We’ll start by examining the language of each sutra - what do the Sanskrit roots mean and how do they relate to our current human experience? By exploring derivatives and etymology, we can discover how one word blooms into many different strands of meaning.

After unpacking the language itself, we’ll move into a community discussion around how we can interpret the sutra in a way that invigorates our modern lives. Finally we’ll move this meaning into our bodies through guided breath work and sensation exploration.

You’re welcome to order the text and follow along but you can also join without it (handouts of each sutra will be provided).

Is this class for you?

Yoga philosophy has been a touchstone for me during my most trying times. It has connected me with loving communities, opened my heart, and stimulated my mind. It has a way of elevating the mundane and bringing a sharper sense of presence into my life.

Are you looking for more meaning in your life? Do you want to feel more present and awake to the world around you? This course is for yogis and non-yogis alike. It’s for any human wanting to reconnect with a deep appreciation for the possibility both within, and around, them. The world can often feel like it’s collapsing underneath our feet. We carry the weight of the world, are asked to take in and take on so much, and try our best to smooth out the rough edges of daily stress.

The wisdom of yoga is generous, expansive, and fortifying. It can speak to the deepest parts of us; the parts that can sense what’s left when all of the burdens and obligations fall away.

Yoga philosophy can give us an anchor of hope and wonder, bringing us back to what’s important when we get caught in the loop of overwhelm or stress. When the logistics and semantics of everyday life bind us, creating community around expansive ideas is what can free us.

Whether you’re a philosophy expert or novice, this course will inspire you to live more authentically, tenderly, and fully. It will help you reflect on how you want to show up for yourself, in your relationships, and as a whole. It will connect you with a community of people who are curious and dedicated to inquiring about life’s most precious gifts.

What past participants are saying:

“I took two Sutra Series philosophy courses with Sarah and learned so much about how we root our yoga practices in the present context each time. Sarah’s mastery with language leads to so much expansion in understanding of the text, where each student’s reading or interpretation of the sutra - and even each word - was right and beautiful in different ways. Sarah facilitates the course so that we comprehend more together, in community, than we might reading the text on our own. She shows how language is a living, breathing entity rooted in ancient teachings and values.” - Ellie Masson

“I'm a long-time yoga teacher and came to Sarah feeling a little uninspired and lost. We focused on philosophy and my learning with Sarah reinvigorated all aspects of my teaching and practice. Sarah is a wealth of knowledge and an absolute joy to work with.” - Sindy Warren

“Sarah is a wealth of knowledge. She explained everything in such a digestible and practical fashion. I highly recommend Sarah's teachings!!” - Brielle
