Assisting & Adjustments Training

Co-Taught by Caitlin Pascucci & Sarah Diedrick

March 3-4, 2018

"A hug, pat on the back, and even a friendly handshake are processed by the reward center in the central nervous system, which is why they can have a powerful impact on the human psyche, making us feel happiness and joy…"

As yoga teachers, we have the opportunity to develop a connection with each person who steps on their mat with us. By gaining a deeper awareness of who we want to be as a teacher, we are able to create deeper and more meaningful connections not only with our students, but with our overall intention behind teaching. Touch is just one way to deepen this connection, but one that can be so powerful.

Join Caitlin Pascucci & Sarah Diedrick for a 2-day training on hands-on assisting and adjustments. You will learn beginner and advanced techniques for assisting yoga poses and creating a deeper connection with students. By the end of this training, you will leave with tools, resources, and practice time to build confidence in your assisting skills so that you can bring added value to your classes and deepen your personal practice as a yoga teacher & student.

The weekend will cover and include:

  • Assisting and adjustment philosophy from an alignment-based perspective.
  • Review of asana alignment principles and a deeper understanding of how to assist each class of asana based on the student’s individual body.
  • Setting intention while assisting.
  • How to observe the class to offer the best possible assist.
  • Exploring techniques for protecting our own bodies as the teacher.
  • How to enter and exit an assist, how to move with the student during the assist, and how to transition between poses while assisting.
  • Much of each day will be based around discussion, breakout practice, and feedback with q&a. Participants should bring a notebook.
  • Photos will be taken and be shared privately online following the training to serve as a reference point. All participants receive a manual. Certificate received upon completion of homework.

Dates/Time/Location:

  • Location: Sangha Studio North, 237 North Winooski Ave.
  • Dates: Saturday, March 3rd 9am-5pm & Sunday, March 4th 8am-4pm

Theming Workshop for Yoga Teachers

Saturday, November 4 from 4pm-6:30pm

Join me for an exploration in theming your yoga classes from a philosophical standpoint. Using the relationship between cit (pure consciousness) and ananda (pure bliss) as a guide, we’ll explore a myriad of themes that stem from these two realities, as well as how they show up in asana.

Theming a class can help you stand out as a teacher and enhance your students’ practice both on and off the mat. This workshop will help you become more comfortable presenting a theme at the beginning of your class and building a sequence around that theme. After this workshop, you’ll have a whole host of timeless theme ideas, new ways to cue alignment in asana, and a starting point for future class planning and brainstorming. After the discussion portion, Sarah will lead you through a flow class focused around a specific theme so you can experience how to apply the teachings.

Open to those currently in a Yoga Teacher Training as well as Teachers.

  • Suggested Donation: $25 Members / $30 Non-Members

Look Ma, All Hands! Workshop

Sunday, July 24th 10:30-12:30pm

Are you ready to get upside down? Then don’t miss this handstand play date! This workshop is for those looking to refine their handstand practice. If you are comfortable kicking up into a handstand against the wall and want to work toward balancing in the middle of the room, then this is your workshop.

We’ll start by learning intelligent and specific alignment cues during our warm up flow so that when we go upside down, we know how to stabilize and engage the body’s midsection in order to find more strength, freedom and balance on our hands. We’ll learn different ways to kick up, look at handstand transitions and even dabble in fun variations like frog hops and press ups! We’ll end with a long, sweet savasana.

Pelvic Praise Workshop

Saturday, July 23rd 6-7:30pm

According to Tias Little, “If the structures around the hip joint are mobile, a flow of essential fluids - blood, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid - can pass unimpeded through the pelvis and in turn affect buoyancy deep within the spine.”

In this workshop, we’ll look at mobility and stability in the pelvis, explore the alignment principle ‘thighs back, tailbone under,’ and, in turn, liberate the spine. Then we’ll flow through a sequence of femur-rooting, hip opening and backbending postures to harmonize the body and leave you feeling totally blissed out. Open to all levels.

Restorative Yoga Workshop

Friday, July 22nd 7-9pm

Replenish your body and mind in this 2 hour restorative workshop with Sarah Diedrick. Experience a variety of supportive restorative postures (backbends, forward folds, hip openers, inversions, side bends) that all use props to hold the body in a comfortable place so that it can more easily let go. Restorative yoga triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, lowers stress levels, releases tension in the body and mind and promotes a greater sense of calm and clarity. Enjoy this nourishing restorative practice along with candles, relaxing music and an extended yoga nidra to send you off into a blissful savasana.

Yin Yoga Workshop with Sarah Diedrick & Kaleigh Mulpeter

Yin yoga is a practice that targets the deeper connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) with a series of long-held, passive yoga poses. Yin yoga is a beautiful complement to our common yang, or Vinyasa, practice. Yin yoga gives us an opportunity to move into stillness, experience sensation, restore balance, and gain more mobility and freedom in the physical body.

Join Sarah & Kaleigh for this deep Yin workshop, during which you'll learn the benefits of the Yin practice, how it differs from restorative yoga and the three tenets of this style of yoga. You will then be lead through a guided meditation followed by a 2-hour yin practice accompanied by healing touch. Experience newfound freedom, opening and release in both the body and mind.

[Low Back Love Workshop]

December 5th, 2015

Sarah Diedrick mermaid yoga pose, Sarah Diedrick Sangha Studio Burlington Vermont

This workshop is designed to free up your low back with a variety of hamstring, hip and lower back poses. Learn how to protect your low back with a slower-paced vinyasa flow that incorporates therapeutic physical principles to strengthen and stabilize your low back. These principles can be applied on and off the mat for more mobility and freedom in your lower body. This workshop will leave you feeling strong, open and sweetly uplifted.

All levels welcome.

[Yoga Workshop: Inversions Workshop with Caitlin Pascucci]

Saturday, October 17th 2015// 2:30-5:30 pm

Sarah Diedrick handstand inversion, Sarah Diedrick Sangha Studio Burlington Vermont, Caitlin Pascucci Sangha Studio

Join in for an upside down adventure! In this workshop, we'll begin with a warming flow and then work progressively toward intermediate inversions and variations on these postures. Through this workshop we will look at variations for many inversions and learn how to use props and assists to deepen our inversion practice safely and effectively. We will learn how to gain control, begin to understand the pivot point in our bodies, and focus on breath control while upside down. Participants can expect to practice poses including Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Stand) and Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand).

This workshop is geared toward people who have a comfortable Bakasana (Crow Pose) practice and have been playing with kicking into Handstand against a wall. This workshop is designed to bring confidence to balancing in the center of the room and finding comfort in exploring variations.

Come play and experience the joy of going upside down!
